Veterinary Surgeons

Jon Slattery
BVSc CertSAM DipCABT MRCVS
Jon graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1994 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and locumed extensively throughout the UK before moving down to London in 1997.
In 2005, after a further three years’ study, Jon achieved RCVS board certification in small animal internal medicine. Jon also has a Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour and Therapy.
Between 1997 and 2007, Jon worked in a large companion animal hospital and referral centre, seeing both first opinion and a variety of referral cases from colleagues.
In 2007 Jon returned to his native Worcestershire, where he grew up and currently lives with his daughter Carys and son Morgan in Madresfield.
In his free time, Jon can be found walking his dog Cara through the beautiful Worcestershire countryside, swimming and mountain biking.
Veterinary Nurses

Sharon Bevan
RVN, MBVNA & ISFM Cat Advocate
Sharon first started in veterinary practice in 1985, helping out at a local practice in the evening after school, then went on to train at their main mixed practice hospital in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
In 1987, she gained a distinction in Animal Care at Rodbaston College of Agriculture. In 1988, whilst working at a large veterinary hospital, Sharon returned to Rodbaston to train as a Veterinary Nurse, qualifying in 1990. Between 1990 – 1997, she worked at a multi-vet companion animal practice in Hampshire and then at a Small animal practice in Sidcup, Kent, between 1997 – 2009 as Head Nurse.
Sharon joined the Best Friends team in January 2009, bringing with her a wealth of experience and expertise.
Sharon’s professional interests are all aspects of nursing, especially feline medicine, neonatal care and behaviour. Over the years, she has looked after many pregnant mum cats, their babies when they have arrived and reared many orphan kittens.
She has a fox red Labrador named Ralphie, nine cats & a rabbit. Her main interest in her spare time is spending time with Ralphie, going for long walks through the English countryside & taking him to agility training.

Alex Sanger
RVN
Alex started her Veterinary Nurse career in 2000. She qualified in 2003, starting at a mixed practice, and has worked in various small animal Practices since.
Alex became a Locum Veterinary Nurse in 2019 and has worked in small practices, large hospitals, and emergency medicine out-of-hours roles all over the country. She joined us as a locum in August 2022 and became a permanent member of the team in April of this year.
You will often find Alex on the reception desk and in nurse consultations, but she does a lot of our work behind the scenes. Alex has a special interest in our older patients and behaviour.
At home, Alex has 2 teenage children, 2 ponies and various feathered friends. Her heart is owned, though, by her Cocker Spaniels with a keen interest in working them in the field.

Georgia Traverse
SVN
Georgia first started her veterinary career in 2022 as an animal care assistant, before progressing on to her nursing studies. She joined Best Friends in May 2025 as a final-year student at the end of her studies, eagerly awaiting her OSCEs in September.
Georgia has keen interests in many areas of nursing and is planning to achieve lots of certificates and extra qualifications in the future. She is particularly interested in feline behaviour and will be joining Sharon as an ISFM cat advocate when qualified.
At home, she is accompanied by a cavalier king charles spaniel named Pip and two cats named Olive & Nero. In her spare time, she enjoys nature walks with her dog, or if the weather is bad, you can often find her working on various craft projects.

Jane Gilbert
Locum RVN
Jane qualified as an RVN in 2019. She joined us in 2022 when she began locuming and is our regular locum nurse who is with us every Wednesday. You’ll find her in the consulting room or often out the back looking after your best friends. We can’t have Jane every day as she is busy running her own business, ‘Snout & About’ pet services, which she started when she made the move into locuming. Before all this, Jane was a professional groom/ riding instructor.
Jane had always had her own horse until 2024, and she is still riding regularly. She has two dogs at home, a Border Terrier called Scrumpy and a Doberman called Ammo. In her spare time, you can find her riding around the beautiful country on her motorbikes.
Client Care

Kelly Webb
Client Care Manager
Kelly joined the team in July 2021, after transitioning her career from childcare to one that more closely aligned with her love for animals, stemming from her days working for Lush Cosmetics in London. With this passion and managerial experience, Kelly flourished here as client care manager.
You can often find Kelly out on dog walks with friends & family, when she’s not at home enjoying life as a new mother with her family and rescue cat named Bill.
Kelly has hopes to follow her passions and gain more experience in animal care assistance when back after maternity leave.

Claire Holliday
Client Care Advisor & Animal Care Assistant
Claire joined Best Friends in September 2024 after working at a veterinary hospital in Staffordshire.
She completed a veterinary nurse assistant course at Solihull College in 2014.
Claire has a daughter who is equally passionate about animals and shares their home with Bentley the black lab, Raisin the cat (who has recently joined them) and Frankie the horse, who Claire often competes in British Dressage with in her spare time.

Lucy Mae Fletcher
Animal Care Assistent
Lucy started her career in the veterinary world as a receptionist at her previous practice and instantly fell in love with the industry. She joined the Best Friends team in April 2025 and progressed to the role of Animal Care Assistant. She is loving working more closely alongside the nurses and vets. She will be embarking on her journey to become a registered veterinary nurse this September when she starts college. She is very excited to start advancing her knowledge and skills.
Since joining Best Friends, Lucy has developed a particular interest in our in-house laboratory testing, finding the diagnostic side of veterinary medicine fascinating.
In her spare time, she loves the outdoors and keeping active. She has recently completed her first ever half marathon, and her favourite sport is snowboarding.
